Barcelocaaaa

This past weekend we finally had the long anticipated program trip to Barcelona. I didn't know much about this city before traveling there (not that I know much about any city before traveling there) but Barcelona was very different than I expected.  It is not like Madrid at all. They speak a different form of spanish and the city seems a lot more modern than madrid. The beach is beautiiful and the Gaudi style architecture is super trippy and different. It's also a lot more touristy than Madrid and there are so many things I wasn't able to see while I was there.  I may have to return with my wittle baby sisssy when she comes to travel with me!

I left Friday morning with the program since I unfortunately have class on Thursdays unlike a lot of people who were able to leave for Barcelona early since I suck and couldn't give myself a 4 day weekend when planning my class schedule. Oh well. Abroad problems. So we arrived to Barcelona super early  and went on tours with the program. We saw a beautiful view from Montjuic, went to la Sagrada Familia, and toured the Picasso museum.  La Sagrada Familia is probably the coolest thing I've seen in Spain.  Gaudi designed this beautiful church which is still under construction. It is very modern and unlike any other church I've seen yet. The outside is where the visual artwork is depicting the different scenes of Jesus while the inside is more focused on the lighting and gives a natural, foresty feeling.  I loved this church and actually felt comfortable in it, where as sometimes we enter these sacred and old churches that give off an eerie and delicate feeling.  I wish my family could have seen this beautiful church.

The nightlife in Barcelona is crazy and my two nights there were awesome. The first night the program paid for us to sleep in this beautiful hotel.  Kristin was my roommate and our room had this awesome balcony which was a perfect place for a pregame. We then went to this very cool club called Opium which is right on the beach. I didn't exactly go into Opium but I walked all the way there with Charlie and then once we arrived it was so late and we didn't want to pay the 20 euro cover charge so we walked back.  Still super fun though. If I return to Barcelona, I will probably actually enter the club though. The next day we had more tours to see Gaudi architecture which was pretty cool and they gave us a lot of free time. When the program ended we decided to try and scalp tickets to the Barcelona soccer game! That was awesome. I went with Charlie, Catherina, Kristin, Emily and Philips and we each bought tickets for 45 euros.  Not bad considering our seats were 8 rows up from the field! It was insaneeee. And Barcelona obviously won 3-1 against Zaragoza and I took awesome, creepy photos of Messi the entire time. Such a fun timeee.

That night we then went out again and some Barcelona kids took us to this bar which is basically a beer garden. I wish I had my drindl because it was like Oktoberfest all over again. This time I stole a mug also! There were a ton of Duke kids and everyone was just running around and hanging out with each other. Then after quenching our thirst there we walked over to a club called Razzmatazz around 3 am and stayed there for a little while.  It was also a ton of fun and everyone got loco and i successfully made it home to my hostel.  Very impressive. Barely slept that night though unfortunately and I am still suffering from that. The next day we had a few hours to spend in which we ate lunch and then a bunch of us went to Parc Guell which is the cool Gaudi park with all this trippy architecture and the most famous bench in the world. That was very fun to see. We had a train back to Madrid at 5:30 and then came home and hugged Carmen and slepttttt. These weekends take a lot out of me. I leave again on Thursday, Thanksgiving, for Morocco.  How unAmerican can I get?! Camel rides and desert tours so soon! I cannot waittttt.

Also, mi amigo Tyler is here in Madrid and so therefore tonight I must take him out to see Madrid. Haven't been out on a Monday yet I don't think.  Pretty stoked. Loving this abroad life, that's for sure. It will be interesting once we all get back to Duke and need to learn to be normal people again. But for now, I will keep making the most of every moment and enjoying this amazing life and making memories I'll never forget.
